About Me

Melissa Nissenbaum, DSW, LCSW

Adult, Adolescent, and Child Psychotherapist

Thank you for visiting my website.  I have been practicing therapy for over 8 years and enjoy being able to see individuals make positive changes in their lives.  I received my doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in 2011 where I examined the intergenational transition of trauma among third generation Holocaust survivors.  Upon graduation, I continued my work at the University of Pennsylvania in teaching and advising graduate students and built my practice to what it is today.  In addition to being an academic advisor at Penn, I also have experience as adjunct faculty at Rutgers University as well as Arcadia University.  I have taught classes such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with children and adults, Mental Health Diagnostics, and Couples and Family Therapy.

My practice provides individual, couple, and family therapy to patients dealing with a wide gamut of issues through the life cycle.  We are often faced with many stressors in our lives that may impact our family, career, or both.  I have been trained in cognitive behavioral therapy and often find that it works for my clients and they are able to become their own therapists.  My goal is to help each individual explore their story and what brought them into my office.  Together we will identify what coping mechanisms work best for them and in the end they will be able to be their own therapists.
